The foodservice packaging industry is committed to reducing the impact of its products and is dedicated to increasing their recovery through recycling and composting.
To support this commitment, FPI convenes several special interest groups that unite stakeholders across the value chain to develop and promote economically viable, sustainable recovery solutions. These groups include the Paper Recovery Alliance, Plastic Recovery Group, Paper Cup Alliance and Foam Recycling Coalition.
The Paper Recovery Alliance and Plastics Recovery Group (PRA/PRG) focus their efforts on getting more paper and plastic foodservice packaging recycled or composted. They are working with communities, recycling facilities, composters and end markets to expand recovery options for these valuable materials. Check out our semi-annual newsletter for more information on the group’s latest activities.
The Foam Recycling Coalition (FRC) works to get more foam polystyrene cups and containers recycled by offering grants to communities and recycling facilities interested in adding or expanding a foam recycling program.
The Paper Cup Alliance (PCA) was founded to accelerate the adoption of paper cup recycling in the U.S.

Anti-Litter Initiatives
The foodservice packaging industry is committed to reducing the impact of its products on the environment and is dedicated to decreasing the foodservice packaging that ends up on land and in waterways.
Working with Keep America Beautiful and the National Restaurant Association, FPI produced the “Being a Good Neighbor: A Guide to Reducing and Managing Litter” for foodservice operators. Recognizing that behavior change is crucial to reducing litter, FPI helped to develop and sponsor Keep America Beautiful’s “How Will You…End Littering” video contest for high school students.
