Last month, we held our Fall Conference in Dallas, and it was exciting! Not just because of the dynamic speakers and member engagement, but because we also announced the winners of the 2017 QSR/FPI Foodservice Packaging Awards.
Every other year, FPI partners with QSR magazine to offer our awards competition for excellence and innovation in foodservice packaging.
This competition is known for its Package of the Year award. But, this year our judges had such a difficult time choosing the "best of the best" that, for the first time ever, there were two Foodservice Package of the Year winners! Pan Pacific Manufacturing won Foodservice Package of the Year for Innovation while PDQ won Foodservice Package of the Year for Excellence.
The Package of the Year winners, and almost all of this year's entries, really spoke to the current trends in our industry. They reflected growing trends in both the packaging and restaurant industries. For example, they demonstrated how well the industry is responding to increased customer demand for meal delivery and take-out services with products like packaging with tamper-evident features.
Pan Pacific Manufacturing's Seal 2 Go tamper-evident carryout bags are easily sealable and take advantage of a growing need in a simple format. This allows restaurants to add safety to the delivery process without additional labor.
PDQ's packaging suite won Foodservice Package of the Year for Excellence. Using packaging designed and manufactured by CMI Pack, graphics with big, bold styles highlighted PDQ's color palette, messaging and graphics to tell its brand story. Judges felt the different pieces created a cohesive packaging message while using every available print surface – even the inside flaps – for witty content that promotes social media engagement.
We congratulate all our winners this year and thank everyone for their entries! We’re already looking forward to the 2019 competition and hopefully even more new and exciting foodservice packaging.
